Starboard Free

A hall of fame for your community's best messages.

A hall of fame: a message that collects enough ⭐ reactions is posted to the starboard channel - with its text, its pictures and a link back to it.

Starboard: the channel, the emoji and how many stars a message needs.

Everything you can set for this module in the dashboard, in the order the page shows it.

A standard emoji or one of this server - pick it with the button in the field.

A thread follows its channel; a category covers every channel in it.

Limits

  • Up to 4 pictures of a message are shown; a file over 10 MB stays a link.

Good to know

  • Any emoji works - a standard one or one of your server's own - and the number of stars needed is yours to choose. The starboard channel has to be one you can write in yourself.
  • Pictures are shown in the entry (up to four as a gallery), GIFs and stickers too; a short video or audio clip is attached again.
  • Spoilers stay spoilers - also a picture that came as a link inside a spoiler, which is not drawn.
  • An entry can be removed again when the stars drop below the threshold - at once when a moderator removes all reactions of the message. Self-stars count only if you allow them; stars from bots never count, Pangobot's own included.
  • Private channels stay private: a message only goes on the board when everybody who can see the board can also see the channel it was written in - members the board was opened to by name included, and a role that hides the channel counts too (for example an "Under 18" role on #adult-talk). Messages from staff channels, tickets and private threads therefore do not appear on a board everybody reads; the dashboard notes it when one would have. Age-restricted channels, their threads and forum posts only reach an age-restricted board.
  • Ignored channels cover their threads, and an ignored category covers every channel in it. Exclude channels whose content should not appear on the board - that also stops the dashboard note for them.
  • Deleted means deleted: when the original message is deleted - or the channel, thread or forum post it was in - its entry goes too. An entry that staff delete from the board is not posted again, however many stars come later. (Entries of messages deleted while Pangobot was offline stay: delete them on the board.)
  • When a starred message is edited, its entry shows the new text. If a channel is made private, age-restricted or ignored later, its entries come off the board the next time their stars change.
  • One member taking their star away and giving it back cannot make Pangobot post an entry again and again: an entry that dropped off and came back stays up for 10 minutes, showing its current stars, and comes off after that if they are still too few.
  • Text AutoMod would remove on the board is not put there - for example an invite link from a channel AutoMod ignores, also when a bot or a proxy like PluralKit posted it. Moderators and roles AutoMod leaves alone are not affected. Pangobot's own board entries are never starred onto the board again (for example old entries after you moved the board).

What the bot needs

  • View Channel, Send Messages, Embed Links, Attach Files (for clips) and Read Message History in the starboard channel, and View Channel and Read Message History in the channels whose messages get stars: without them Pangobot cannot post, update or remove entries, and the dashboard's problem list says so.
